These works ask questions about where one belongs. They have evolved in a world where people are shifting and moving for reasons beyond their control. I myself immigrated to the U.S. in 2006 and I float between cultures. My images offer imaginary spaces for viewers to enter, environments that are surreal and otherworldly, boundless and dreamlike. Hints of color allude to promises of full color, 3-D reality – places that might be transformed into homes. When the familiar is uprooted, a long journey of questioning and choosing begins and futures are built through determination, stamina and inventiveness. I created these works through a similar process, repurposing and combining unexpected and disparate elements, striving for a fragile balance.
